HOLIDAY SEASON AND NEW YEAR MESSAGE

27 of December

Dear DanceSport Family,

Another busy year has come to a close for the World DanceSport Federation and all our amazing dancers around the world.

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who played a role, no matter how small, in the growth and development of our sport in 2023 and call on you to continue supporting all of our incredible DanceSport disciplines as we head into 2024.

We enjoyed an abundance of highlights on the dance floor this year, including a full slate of GrandSlam events that culminated in the grand finale in Shanghai earlier this month. What a tremendous season it was! My hearty congratulations go out to the winning athletes, Marius-Andrei Balan – Khrystyna Moshenska (GER) in Latin and Alexey Glukhov – Anastasia Glazunova (MDA) in Standard.

While we were of course greatly disappointed to be overlooked by the organisers of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, we nevertheless remain proud of all that we accomplished on Breaking’s Road to Paris 2024 this year.

Breaking made highly successful debuts at continental multisport events such as the European Games, Pan American Games and Asian Games, while Olympic qualifiers were held in multiple locations worldwide, including the first ever continental Breaking championship in all five continents.

I would personally like to thank the WDSF Breaking Division, and in particular Breaking Division Head and Presidium Member Bojin Chen, for the hard work, passion, and dedication they continue to exhibit month in and month out.

With the Olympic Games Paris 2024 now only seven months away, the final qualifying spots for b-boys and b-girls will soon be determined at two IOC-led Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) in Shanghai and Budapest in May and June.

Breaking’s debut at Paris 2024 will without question be one of the most important milestones in DanceSport history, and all of us at the WDSF are working diligently to ensure its success. We are convinced that the world will fall in love with Breaking during the Games, and the 32 b-boys and b-girls who eventually qualify will unquestionably be excellent ambassadors for our sport.

We cannot wait to see what the year ahead holds in store for DanceSport. Thanks to our passionate and united community, however, I am certain that we will reach new and exciting heights together.

I wish you all the very happiest of holiday seasons and a sensational start to the Olympic year ahead!

Warm regards,

Shawn Tay

WDSF President
