The BDSF Today
The B.D.S.F. (Belgian Dancesport Federation) is the sole international recognised Dancesport organization in Belgium affiliated to the B.O.I.C. (Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Commitee) and the I.D.S.F. (International Dance Sport Federation).
BDSF's aim is to coordinate all activities related to dancing in general as to dancing as a sport. Therefore BDSF organizes, advices, improves and promotes the practice, the cultivation and the spreading of the dance. She assures the coordination of the DanceSport in all her aspects on national level and can also coordinate all other art of dancing.
Finally, she aims to unite all the Belgian associations which have aims and objectives as written in the present statutes.
 
History of BDSF
Maurice Mottie and Leon Maetens, delegates of the National Federation of Amateur Dancers and Laurent Doutrewe, delegate of the Belgian Federation of Amateur Dancers, have founded a non-profit-making association, the UBAD, which was a fusion of the above mentioned associations.
This UBAD (Union of Belgian Amateur Dancers / Belgisch Staatsblad van 12702/1949) aims to promote "the good dancing" and to establish local or provincial commitees to protect and spread the following dances :
- ballroom
- old time dances
- international dance competitions
- rythmic dances, children's dances
- theatrical dances, classic and modern ballet
- acrobatic dances, tap dance
- folk dances and folklore dances
UBAD is member of the International Federation of Amateur Dancers (IFAD).

On 26.02.1956 (B.S. van 24/03/1956) UBAD is managed by an administrative committee consisted of a President, two Vice-Presidents, a General Secretary, a Treasurer, an Adjunct Treasurer, a Sports Director and four Adjunct-Secretaries.
The Extraordinary General Meeting of November 8th 1959, chaired by the President, Georges Verbiest, registrated the contributions of the clubs and the election modalities of the managers, and appointed eleven managers and two deputies.
25.02.1962 : the amount of managers rises up to 13 (abolition of the deputies).
15.02.1970 : important modifications of the statutes regarding the definition of the full members/clubs, the affiliated members/clubs and the applicant member/clubs, the competences of the General Meeting, the composition of the Managing Committee and the election modalities (B.S. dd.14.06.1973).
08.10.1988 : (B.S. dd. 09.03.1989), change of name, UBAD becomes Belgian DanceSport Federation (BDSF), but the UBAD logo remains.
04.02.1993 : (B.S.dd.04.02.1993), new statutes of the Federation concerning :
-name, registered adress, objects, duration.
-members, admission and termination of membership.
-General Meeting, administration, Dialy Managing.
20.06.2000 : General Meeting : after 44 years as Presidium member, the President, Leon Leonard, withdraws.

The new President of the Belgian DanceSport Federation is Guido Panis.
